Phenelzine (Nardil)
Tranylcypromine (Parnate)
St. John's Wort
Selegiline (Eldepryl)
Procarbazine (Matulane)

If you eat tyramine while taking these medications, you may have a severe headache, high blood pressure, or a stroke. The following foods contain a large amount of tyramine and should be avoided:
alcohol - bananas - bean curd - broad (fava) bean pods - cheese (cream cheese & cottage cheese are OK) - fish that is smoked, fermented, pickled or aged (fresh is OK) - ginseng - meat tenderizers - protein dairy supplements of protein extracts - sausage, bologna, pepperoni & salami - sauerkraut - shrimp paste - soups: canned - yeast: brewer's or extracts.

Fever Few

May act to antagonize serotonin and negatively affect depression.

St. John's Wort

May affect depression in patients taking fluoxetine (Prozac), Paroxetine (Paxil) and Setraline (Zoloft) or in patients whose depression is being treated with a tricyclic antidepressant (amitiptylline, imipramine, or desimpramine).

Glucosamine

The elimination of glucosamine may be inhibited in patients who are taking fluoxetine (Prozac).

Vitamine C

May cause the elimination of TCA's to be increased and require higher doses of the TCA to treat depression.
